A Concept Music Company

Developing music from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds that brings Christian people together in a common understanding and communion in their faith.

A COMPANY dedicated to the creation of concept-driven rather than artist-driven product. As its name implies, Whole World Music also aims to bring a more international emphasis into the US gospel market.

Whole World Music founders are Jeffery McKenzie and Christopher Norton.

Jeffery McKenzie, formerly Vice president of Special Markets for EMI Christian Music Group, has been involved in Christian Music at wholesale and retail, both in and outside the USA since 1973.

Christopher Norton is President of C.N. Productions, a U.K. based company that has supplied best-selling product, often concept-driven, to:
Word Inc./Gaylord
Kingsway
David C. Cook
Alliance Media
Brentwood Music/Provident
EMI
Virgin Records

Christopher Norton's proven record as a producer of profitable product and Jeffery McKenzie's record as a creator of profitable concepts provide an important balance for this new label.

Originally from New Zealand, Jeff McKenzie immigrated to the USA in 1991. Prior to that McKenzie had been involved in Christian Music distribution at both a retail and wholesale level in New Zealand since 1973. His last position in New Zealand involved working with the Australian and Canadian offices.

Arriving in the USA, McKenzie started a company consulting with labels regarding their International focus in the Christian Music Industry. Within twelve months this became a full time position with one company, Brentwood Music (now Provident Music).

During his time at this company, McKenzie bought some very successful products to this company and at the same time met up with Norton. After a very successful term with Brentwood/Provident, McKenzie moved to EMI Christian Music Group overseeing the Special Markets Division and the International Division.

With agreement from EMI, McKenzie and Norton were commissioned to create specialist projects for the EMI CMG group. Our goal is 'We Ship Recouped' - which we were able to continually achieve. Through acquisitions and distribution agreements, EMI CMG quickly rose to the predominant player in Christian Music. With several successful series to their credit, Norton and McKenzie decided to expand the vision of their own company. In August 1999, McKenzie left the employ of EMI CMG to focus on the projects Norton and McKenzie are able to create. EMI CMG have retained McKenzie's services as a consultant for their specialist and concept projects.

Born in New Zealand in 1953, Christopher Norton showed early promise as a pianist and composer and gained a first-class honors degree in music from Otago University in 1974. He taught music in Wellington high schools, worked as a Composer-in-Schools for a year, then free-lanced as a composer, arranger and pianist.

Christopher Norton came to the UK in 1977 on a New Zealand Government Scholarship. In 1980 he embarked on a free-lance career and within a short time was published, first by Universal Edition, then by Boosey & Hawkes, with whom he has had a long and fruitful association.

The MICROJAZZ series has established itself as a leading educational music series around the world and the ESSENTIAL GUIDES series have also been very well received by teachers and students in many countries. Recent additions to Norton's published works include a CD-Rom, "SO YOU WANNA BE A POP STAR", tutors for electronic keyboard and guitar and BUY A BAND. Christopher Norton has presented his material in many countries, including Australia and New Zealand, Canada and The USA, Holland, Spain, Germany and Malaysia and Singapore.

Norton also works as a record producer for a variety of labels, most recently for EMI and Virgin in North America. He also works extensively as a writer of music for television and has made many production music albums, for KPM and Cavendish Music among others. Christopher Norton is also a publisher in his own right.
